An hour into Xbox’s E3 2019 presentation where they hosted 60 games came the world premiere of Microsoft Flight Simulator, an all-new installment in Microsoft’s longest-running and iconic franchise.

Captured in real-time and in 4K, the stunning trailer teased how the next game uses satellite technology and Azure AI to create the most ambitious flight sim ever, and one that’s coming to Xbox as well as PC, but not right away.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is coming to Windows 10 with Xbox Game Pass in 2020, and coming to Xbox One at a later date, and like prior games in the core series this new - and simply titled - Microsoft Flight Simulator is “specifically designed to celebrate flight simulation fans through a focus on the authenticity of flying and visually stunning environments.”

There’s no specific date for the main PC release of Microsoft Flight Simulator but given the visuals teased here, much work has already been done and it seems Microsoft is really emphasizing that they’re shopping for sponsors and partners to help fund the title and get it more widespread attention.

All sorts of different classes of planes and jets are on display in this teaser, and the game will let players create their own flight plans and fly literally anywhere on the planet, whether it be day or night, and in multiple weather conditions. The idea that Microsoft Flight Simulator will also come to the Xbox family of consoles is also an exciting one since it will undoubtedly support cross-play for larger multiplayer experiences, events, and hopefully some innovation on that front.

By revamping our tech, working in close collaboration with the community and pursuing the best partnerships across the industry, we intend to deliver the best-in-class flight simulation experience.

Even though Microsoft Flight Simulator is catered towards “hardcore” flight sim enthusiasts, there’s potential to be had in more social experiences here as well. And we can already picture some cool peripherals and new joystick and throttle peripherals coming to Xbox.
