It’s pretty evident that none of the villains in Suicide Squad are just starting out. The entire premise of the film revolves around taking the worst of the worst out of their cells and giving them specific objectives, with the idea being that if they fail their mission or get out of control, it will just look like business as usual for bad guys. It hadn’t been revealed just how they got locked up in the first place, however.

According to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, though, the members of the Suicide Squad have at one time or another all been victims of Batman’s war on crime. This makes sense to comic fans, of course, but it does go to show just how busy Batman has been during the years he’s been fighting crime in Gotham.

Speaking to Fandango, Akinnuoye-Agbaje explained some of the history of the villains and their run-ins with the Caped Crusader. Explaining their “gripe” with Batman, he said:

“All of these so-called villains are villains that Batman has had some history with and caught and brought into Arkham Prison. So whether it comes before or after I’m not sure, but I do know we’ve all been captured by him and imprisoned in Arkham, so we’ve all got a gripe to bear against the ol’ Bat.”

Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who underwent five hours of makeup and prosthetics every day to play Killer Croc, refused to reveal whether he would tussle with Batman again during the film. He did promise a few “croc rolls” for fans, though it’s possible that they’ll occur against other enemies and not Bats himself. Either way, given Croc’s size and strength in the comics you can expect his big-screen counterpart to be a fierce opponent for man or Bat.

Between the mixed reviews of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and (refuted) rumors that Suicide Squad reshoots were done to make the film lighter and funnier, some fans may be lowering their expectations for the film. Akinnuoye-Agbaje claims that the challenge of spending so long in the makeup chair made him want to “act [his] butt off,” though, so it’s entirely possible that the film will deliver some strong performances. If they cross paths with Batman onscreen, all the better.
