Amazon S Carnival Row Season 2 Filming Begins

In October, many changes were announced behind the scenes of the neo-noir drama. Travis Beacham, who wrote the script on which the show is based, exited over what was reported to be creative differences. Marc Guggenheim, who was the showrunner for season 1, stepped back from the role due to his close involvement in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. Guggenheim was replaced by Erik Oleson, who had previously worked on Daredevil and The Man in the High Castle. It was noted at the time that the changes were unlikely to have a big effect on Carnival Row’s shooting schedule. With the news that production for season 2 is now underway, that certainly seems to be the case.

The announcement comes courtesy of the official Twitter account for Carnival Row. With the enticing promise that the stories of The Burgue are far from over, a video was posted that included Bloom and Delevingne, as well as their co-stars Tamzin Merchant and David Gyasi. The actors expressed their excitement for returning to their characters and mentioned a few things that they hoped season 2 would explore. While no official premiere date for Carnival Row season 2 has been announced, it’s possible that the series will return some time in 2021. With its big budget, and big ambitions, Carnival Row could take longer to arrive to viewers as a finished product. The first season was shot entirely in the Czech Republic, with filming lasting 108 days.

While the first batch of eight episode, which made up the first season, received a mixed reception, it is not uncommon for high-concept shows to see a jump in quality in its sophomore outing. Carnival Row may yet find new devotees, in addition to its already solid fanbase.
