UPT (Unpaid Personal Time) policy intends to offer free time for employees from work stress. There are research findings stating that taking some free time increases the productivity of employees and relieves them from work stress. UPT policy of 2022 intends to give 20 hours of UPT for every Tier-one employee on the first day of every quarter. So that gives them an 80-hour UPT every year.

They can take UPT any time during the year. The company gives UPT four times a year. However, employees can’t take more than 80 hours of UPT. If an employee attempts to take more than that, most probably they will be terminated from the company.

UPT Vs PTO

If an employee chooses UPT and was identified as taking leave for some other reason, their job becomes at stake. This is the reason why more employees choose for PTO or Paid Time Off policy.

How is VCP associated with UPT

VCP depends on two main factors which are employee attendance and facility site to plan production goals. An employee receives a monthly maximum VCP payout of 8% gross pay from the previous month for the first 3 quarters of a year. In the 4th quarter, their maximum payouts double to 16%.

So, employees receive an average of 8% VCP payout on a month, where 4% is based on their UTP and 4% is based on their attainment of facility-wide production goals set by the company. The second factor solely depends on the company where employees have no role to play. Using 1 instance of UPT cuts 2% VCP based on the individual attendance. Using the next instance of UPT turns your VCP portion based on attendance to 0%. The facility-wide production goals may vary according to the company and you can get 4%,2%, or 0%  often.
